Burke Prize 2021: Story Makers
The Burke Prize is a $50,000 unrestricted award from the Museum of Arts and Design for US-based artists aged 45 or under working in glass, fiber, clay, metal or wood. Story Makers, the 2021 edition, was an AR-based special project on the museum’s official site presenting fifteen finalists. Its theme was that storytelling and empathy matter more than ever.
Augmented reality
I scanned museum pieces and made it possible to place them in AR. Visitors could put a ceramic vessel or a sculpture in their own room, directly from the page. People who could not travel to the museum could still see the pieces.
Handwriting animation
The page has handwritten notes that are drawn as you scroll. I built this with SVG stroke animation, so the notes look like they are being written, not faded in. I also built the sequenced animations that connect the type, the dot grid and the artist profiles as you scroll.
